Matt Sunderman

President, Advisory

Matt serves as president of the Advisory business at HBR Consulting (HBR). He leads the integrated Advisory practice groups – Information Governance, Legal Technology, Legal Transformation + Innovation, Strategic Sourcing + Business Optimization and Strategy + Operations – as well as HBR’s Software Solutions team, with a focus on driving value for clients by providing collaborative, integrated solutions.

Leveraging his experience advising domestic and international organizations, Matt has worked with clients to streamline operations, enhance cross-functional collaboration, reduce expenses and effectively leverage both HBR and external third-party software and managed services. Matt and his team frequently assist clients with pre- and post-merger planning and integration.

Prior to joining HBR, Matt was a founding member and director at Blue Hill Consulting Group and a manager in Huron Consulting Group’s Operational Consulting practice. Matt holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has held his certified purchasing manager (CPM) designation since 2005 and recently completed executive education coursework at Harvard Business School.

Matt serves as an associate board member at Lake Forest Open Lands Association and a board member at University of Illinois Consulting Academy (ICA), and is active as a mentor for both the Kellogg School of Management leadership development program and Lake Forest High School business incubator honors course. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, two kids (Ethan and Libby) and black Labrador, as well as the outdoors and live music.
