What are the right retention periods on a records retention period? There is pressure from all sides, including compliance, legal, privacy officers, IT, and the employees who just need the information. Sometimes the needs of various groups conflict, and records managers are caught in the crossfire. This presentation will discuss issues associated with minimum retention requirements established by laws and regulations, maximum retention allowances applied under data privacy laws, legal and technology issues associated with IG, and an evaluation of how organizations use records and information. Participants will then, as a group, work with fact patterns that pit various interests against each other and determine how to pick the right retention periods.
